editing my preliminary task (part 2)

i finished editing on Friday and found it quite simple to edit my shots together to make the film flow nicely. As i was confident with how to use final cut pro which i hadn't been the last time i worked allot better and quicker and i feel that my film is as good as it can be. I am now looking forward to researching action thriller films and then eventually shooting my main task.

editing my preliminary task (part 1)

On monday after loading all my footage on the computer i started making my sub clips . I firstly watched the whole of my film and noted at what points each of my best takes were and after i had done that it was simple to make my sub clips. I came across a problem while editing as one of my actors had said the wrong line in a number of takes which meant that the final product could potentially look unprofessional, but luckily she had only done this while filming at one camera angle so it wasn't too hard to edit and conseal this error. Apart from that minor upset the rest of the editing went smoothly and i am now looking forward to continuing the editing process.

MIGRAIN

What is media?

Media is involved in every aspect of our lives, we are surrounded by it

Media saturated: we are constantly surrounded by media and we take the media for granted

situated culture: the world we live in and how we lead e.g school, friends, family

mediated culture: the opposite of situated culture. The culture of media we are exposed to through t.v, radio etc

Global village: documentaries on t.v that teaches us everything about countries so we don't have to visit them, anyone can communicate easily because of e-mail, facebook etc and have clients all over the world

Mass media: this term is used to define the entirety of the media it would include all newspapers, television, radio and those who work for each

Mediation and social concern: a form of dispute resolution, conducted by an impartial party. Social concern refers to an interest in social issues and sociological study

Filming my preliminary task

I Filmed my plominary task today which was difficult as both of the other members of my group were away but as we were a bit behind i took it upon myself to film alone, i started by explaining  to my actors their rolls and then set up the camera. After setting the camera up i first filmed the first part to my film which took place outdoors, it was neccesary that i filmed four or five takes of this part of the film as experimented as to what direction my actor would come from and the speed she was walking etc so i had more options when it came to editing
When i filmed the inside bit it proved to be a little bit more challenging as there were people working that weren't part of the film and it took a few takes to get a good number of quality takes as people walked across the camera by accident. After  having some trouble with the fire wire I loaded all my footage on the computer and i look forward to editing later on in the week.

The things that I feel that i could have done better are, explained more clearly to my actors exactly what i wanted from them and i also feel i could have been more orgonised in preperation and filming of the ploinary task.

The 180-degree rule

The 180-degree rule is when the camera has to remain on the same side of an imaginary line which is perpendicular to the cameras view point, from which the shot is taken. Two people or objects should always face or move the same way to avoid viewer being disorientated.

i found this information below on the internet to help further explain the 180-degree rule

The 180° rule is a basic
film editing guideline that states that two characters (or other elements) in the sa
me scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle.

This schematic shows the axis between two characters and the 180° arc on which cameras may be positioned (green). When cutting from the green arc to the red arc, the characters switch places on the screen.

The Camera (pd 170)

To learn how to use the pd 170 camera i went on the internet and found a video which i studied and learnt how to operate the camera

Match on action and rule of thirds

Match on action:
match action occurs when an action that begins in one shot is continued or completed in the next. For example if an actor opens the front door to a house. In the next shot the camera, now indoors, we see the actor stepping into the house he has just walked in to. If this is done well it should give the impression of  seamless continuity.

Rule of thirds:
the rule of thirds works by dividing the image in to thirds both horizontally and vertically and placing important elements where these lines intersect

i found this information on the internet which explains the rule in more depth

The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Proponents of this technique claim that aligning an image with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the photo than simply centering the feature would.
